Deficit of stock
What it actually means
SAP will not let you move or issue this material because the quantity you asked for is not available in that exact stock situation.
Why it happens
- The stock is there, but in a different storage location, plant, or batch than the one on your document.
- The stock is in quality inspection or blocked stock, so it is not unrestricted-use.
- The stock is already committed — reserved, or picked for another delivery.
- The posting date falls in a previous period where the stock did not yet exist.
- In a stock transport order, the supplying plant simply does not have the quantity.
How to fix it
- 1Check the real picture in MMBE (stock overview) or MB52 — look at plant, storage location, batch, and stock type.
- 2Read the message text carefully: SAP appends abbreviations telling you WHICH stock is short (BA = batch, PL = plant, SL = storage location, OR = order, RE = reservation).
- 3If the stock sits in quality inspection, release it to unrestricted use first.
- 4If it is in another location, do a transfer posting before the goods issue.
- 5If the quantity genuinely is not there, reduce the quantity or replenish first.
Stopping it happening again
Run an availability check before large goods issues, and keep the posting date aligned with when stock actually arrived.
